Is tithing enough, or is there more to being a faithful steward of God’s blessings?
Tithing is the practice of giving 10% of one’s income to the church, a principle deeply rooted in the Bible. Malachi 3:10 says, “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house.”
Similarly, Leviticus 27:30 states, “A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord.” Tithing is significant because it supports the church’s operations and missions, fostering a spirit of generosity and obedience among believers.
Stewardship, on the other hand, involves managing all resources—time, talents, and treasures—that God has entrusted to us. 1 Peter 4:10 instructs, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” Stewardship is a holistic approach to living, recognizing that everything we have belongs to God and should be used to honor Him.
Stewardship calls us to integrate our faith into every aspect of our lives. This means seeing everything we have—time, talents, and treasures—as gifts from God to be managed wisely. Proverbs 3:9-10 says, “Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.” Practical examples include volunteering time, using talents for church and community, and managing personal finances prudently.

Tithing and stewardship are both vital components of Christian living, but they are not synonymous. While tithing involves giving a portion of our income, stewardship is a comprehensive lifestyle of managing all resources for God’s glory.
